The club has continued with our regular meetings throughout the Summer in Porton Memorial Hall with members enthusiastically enjoying the varied programme!
Five of our members participated in the Winchester Cathedral flower festival, attending workshops and constructing the mechanics in the weeks leading up to the festival, and then setting up the day before the festival was opened to the public.
Porton was allocated the decorating of the Fisherman’s Chapel, situated in the south transept, the burial place of Isaac Walton (author of the Compleat Angler); the small chapel has a striking altar together with a beautiful stained glass window. Our brief was to arrange a “wave“ of flowers in autumn colours to echo the colours within the chapel. It was very different from our usual activities and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, we are now looking forward to taking part in the Salisbury Cathedral festival next year!
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions we have reluctantly decided to cancel our annual Christmas demonstration for this year; it is disappointing for us but with numbers in the hall still being restricted it is not financially viable for our small club! We hope to be able to stage it next year.
We will meet for our December meeting on the 8th when Kelly (one of our members and currently undergoing training as an area demonstrator) will give us a taste of Christmas.
The AGM will take place in January and next year’s programme will then follow.
Visitors are always welcome and meetings start at 7pm, on the second Wednesday of each month; why not come along and enjoy playing with some flowers, chat, have a cup of coffee or tea and maybe win the raffle?
